The Subject Leader
My name is Kerri Smy. I became Art Subject Leader in September 2026, having been PE Subject Leader for a number of years. With a robust, progressive art curriculum already in place, that was designed by the previous Art Subject Leader and our Curriculum Lead, my vision is to focus on further developing children’s art experiences and love of art outside of the curriculum, especially for our SEND and disadvantaged pupils. I studied Art at GCSE level and believe Art, craft and design are important ways for people to express their creativity. A strong education in these areas should encourage and inspire pupils while also challenging them to develop their own ideas. It should give them the knowledge and practical skills needed to experiment, explore different techniques and produce original artwork.
Our high-quality art and design curriculum engages, inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
Children use a range of materials and equipment to represent objects and their own ideas and feelings both realistically and in a more abstract form. Pupils study and are inspired by a variety of artists, artisans and craft workers, both local and world-wide to inspire them!
