Pastoral Care and Discipline

The behaviour in our school is based on mutal respect and consideration for others.  Class teachers are responsible for the care of the children in their class and know every child well. The values, standards and attitudes of the school community are made clear to children by example and discussion. All children abide by the School Code of Conduct which is displayed around the school. Each class displays their own set of rules, based on the code of conduct, decided by the children themselves and written in their own words.

Clear behaviour management systems help pupils understand that they are in school to learn. Regular assemblies and personal, social and health education lessons reinforce the importance of good behaviour.

We focus on positive behaviour management where children are encouraged to behave well through positive reinforcement of high expectations. This is supported by reward systems throughout the school.

If a child displays persistently unacceptable behaviour, teachers and the headteacher work closely with the parents to address this.  In exceptional cases a more formal solution to deal with this problem will be followed.  This is detailed in our behaviour policy which can be download from this website.

Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school, and work well with each other and adults. Pupils in Years 5 and 6 support younger children as playground ‘buddies’ and monitors.

Safeguarding Children

Earls Colne Primary School & Nursery takes seriously its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people in its care.  There are a number of policies and procedures in place that safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are pupils of this school.

It is the role of the Designated Child Protection Coordinator to ensure that all of the child protection procedures are followed within the school.  Part of the role is to imediately refer cases of suspected abuse or allegations to Essex County Council.

The school wioll always undertake to share our intention to refer a child to Social Care Services with the parents or carers unless to do so could place the child at greater risk of harm or impede a criminal investigation.  On these occasions advice will be taken from Essex Social Care Services or Essex Police.

Parents can obtain a copy of the school child protection policy on request or download a copy from our 'School Policies' page.
