Mr Matthew Brown (Chair of Governors)
I have been a governor at the school for over ten years. Firstly as a Parent Governor but now as a Co-Opted Governor. I have two children who both formerly attended the school. Professionally I am Chief Executive Officer of a financial services company which employs 3000 people in Essex. In my spare time I enjoy gardening and running.
I am on the PAC, Key Issues and Appeals committees and have governor responsibility for Geography and History.
Mr James Canton
I am a Co-Opted governor focussing specifically on English provision at the school. My daughter Eva is in Year 6 and younger daughter Molly in Year 4. I am on the PAC Committee.
I was a teacher of English language and literature for many years at Honywood Community Science School and Braintree Sixth Form. I am currently a lecturer in literature at the University of Essex. My book 'Out of Essex' explores the literary landscape of the county, following the footsteps of such writers as Shakespeare, Defoe and HG Wells in Essex.
Mr Ben Castell
This is my fifth year as a governor at our school and I have a daughter, Millie, in Year 6. I have lived in Earls Colne for five years. Prior to that I lived in Kent, where I was Chair of Governors in a local primary school for over 10 years. I work in London as ombudsman at the Financial Ombudsman Service and in addition to an MBA, am a graduate of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, both of which help in my work as a governor.
I am on the Resources Committee and am responsible for Maths and Equality.
Ms Hannah Marshallsay (Vice Chair)
I was delighted to become Vice Chair of Governors this year and am hoping that I will be able to contribute to the success of the school through my new role. My daughter Eva is in Year 6 and Cassia is in Year 1.
I am a freelance Marketer, helping local businesses, organisations and charities grow. One thing I'd like to do as a governor is use my marketing knowledge to build on the schoool's growing good reputation and help it stand out more in the local area. I've already started to do this by conducting market research on behalf of the school and using the insight to make recommendations on how to improve the school website.
I am Chair of the PAC Committee and am on the Pay & Performance Committee. I have responsibility for EYFS.
Mr Matt Mackman - Safeguarding Lead
Despite training as an artist many years ago, I've had a number of professions including heading a charity fundraising organisation, being responsible for performance and information at Essex Probation and I also worked as a teacher within higher and further education. I now work full time as an artist dividing my time between my own studio practice, gallery work and delivering bespoke workshops at schools across Essex.
I was fortunate to have enjoyed my own learning experience and have never lost my passion for education which is why I wanted to get involved with my local school. As a governor l hope to continue giving something back and help make the outcomes better for the children at Earls Colne Primary which includes my own 3 children. I am on the PAC and Appeals Committee with responsibility for English, Culture and Safeguarding.
Mr Mike Watson

I am passionate about all children having the opportunity to acquire an education which enables them to fulfill their own individual promise, whatever that may be. I aim to use my energy, time and experience to contribute to the school's ongoing success for the benefit of pupils, parents and staff.
Mr Dan Salt
I was very happy to be accepted as Co-Opted Governor for the school in 2016. I have a daughter at the school, Holly who just started in Year 2. I work as a designer and leader of software for Geberal Electric, building systems for the next generation of electrical networks around the world. I work primarily from home, but also travel to various company and customer sites. I am passionate about the value of ICT and computing in schools, not only to gain skills in IT, but to assist the learning of many other aspects of the curriculum. I also help run an after-school Coding Club, which further encourages our children to work together and build confidence.
I am on the PAC Committee with responsibilty for ICT and Design.

I have lived in the village for over 40 years. When we arrived here in 1970 both my children attended the primary school. In 1995 I retired after 37 years of teaching in secondary schools, mainly in Essex, including Colchester Royal Grammar School and the Ramsey High School Halstead. During my teaching career I set and marked examination papers for Key Stage 3, O Level, GCSE and A Level for various examination boards. During my retirement I have been connected with the Recreation Club and the Essex Golf and Leisure Centre, still play tennis every week and visit the gym regularly. Also I have been a Churchwarden at St Andrew's Church, still sing in the choir every week and occasionally lead Sunday services.
Living close top the school I am a frequent visitor and as part of my responsibilities as Chair of Resouces, have kept my eye on any construction work and improvements to the school buildings and grounds, such as the swimming pool, playground and kitchen refurbishments, alterations and extension to the main entrance and more recently, the refurbishment of the reception area and decoration of several classrooms.
Parts of my responsibilities also include the Health and Safety of all those who use the premises and the Science provision in the school. I am still a student and have studied many courses with the Open University over the last 20 years. These include many computer programming and IT courses. More recently my studies have included Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Machines, Evolution, Quantum Physics and the Technology of Music.

I am very grateful to have been recently appointed as the latest parent governor. I currently have two sons that attend the school and a younger son that will hopefully attend when he is old enough. My two step children also attended Earls Colne Primary and have gone on to attend local secondary and high schools. I have always been active in the school. I have voluteered regularly, helping with reading in KS1 and supporting school trips, swimming lessons and Friends events.
Previously I was a Police Officer for eleven years, five of which was spent specialising on the Mounted Section before I was medically retired due to an injury. I have recently started up own business, operating from home.
I have joint responsibility for PE, PHSE and English and Culture.

I am a registered general nurse, working in gerneral practice, which involves working closely with children and their families. I also have experience working with children in care and children with special educational needs.
I have an interest in gardening and recently started a volunteers gardening group to help maintain the care of the school gardens, as outdoor learning is an important part of the school's curriculum.
I am also Chair of our school's PTA 'Friends' which raises valuable funds for the school, covering the cost of swimming, school trips, enrichment activities and events for the children.
Mr Richard Farnes
I became the Local Authority Governor just this year. I have lived in the village for three years, and my two sons currently attend the school. I am a self-employed professional musician and earn my keep as an orchestral conductor, working mainly in concert halls and theatre both in the UK and abroad. Before moving to Earls Colne I was for twelve years Musical Director at Opera North in Leeds.
I am on the PAC Committee with a responsibility for Culture and have just taken on responsibility for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I also have a strong interest in Geography and Earth Sciences, and am a keen amateur astronomer. When not doing that or taking my boys to football, I enjoy gardening, cycling and hill walking - not the most demanding of pursuits in Essex.
