Inspiring all children to create and achieve
The children in the school are divided into eleven teaching groups. Currently we have two classes in EYFS, Elephants and Monkeys. There are two classes in Year 1, two classes in Year 2, three classes in Year 3/4 and three in Year 5/6.
Our teachers have a wide experience in the teaching of children of different ages and abilities, which enables them to ensure that the children's learning is broad, balanced and matched to the ability of each individual's needs and abilities.
Pupils have positive attitudes to learning. As ‘talk partners’ in lessons, they become confident, articulate young people ready to promote their school’s values, which include a strong emphasis on learning. In interviews, pupils spoke enthusiastically about what they learn and would like to do next as opportunities for independent learning expand.
Ofsted December 2012
At Earls Colne Primary School & Nursery we believe that all children should have equal access to the curriculum and that there should be equal opportunuties. The school has an dedicated Inclusion Leader (Mrs Woolgar) and a comprehensive Special Needs Policy which is renewed every year.
Our Inclusion Leader works with the class teachers to set up specific programs for individuals and groups of children who require extra support, contacting parents before this process is initiated. These programs may be led by the class teacher or a learning support assistant. Where there is a high level of difficulty the school will request the expertise of outside agencies such as specialist teachers or educational phychologists.
We are an inclusive school and feel confident that we can meet the needs of pupils with disabilities (visitors and staff too). We meet with the parents of a child with disabilities before they start school to assess their needs and plan how to meet them.
We have disabled ramps to provide access to all areas of the building and disabled toilet facilities. The school also has an 'Access Disability Plan' to identify any future access needs.
Visit from a Paralympian
Paralympian, Jonathan Adams came into school to visit our youngest children. The whole school was so excited by the visit that he stayed all day, met the children and presented awards at a special assembly. Every class had the chance to ask him questions, it was a wonderful opportunity which was enjoyed by all.
'Great honour to be invited into this wonderful school. It has a fantastic network and brilliant future. Stay in touch - be blessed and be safe. Don't just dream it, do it.'
'Thank you for inviting myself and my grandson Jonathan to meet the children. Lovely to see how enthusiastic and polite all the children were and see them take part in their activities.'
EARLS COLNE VILLAGE CAROL SERVICE
Due to continued bad weather, the school will not be participating in the Earls Colne Village Carol service tonight.
Unfortunately, due to sheet ice around and on the school site we have had to make the decision to close the school we would not be able to guarantee the safety of children and staff in the current circumstances.
Click here to find out about our amazing Fireworks Display. We raised a whopping £6758 for our school.
