Home Learning for KS1

KS1 Autumn Home Learning Project

Every term, we ask the children to complete a piece of extended work at home, with your support. This term, we would like to link it with our topic ‘Once upon a time…’ Some suggested activities are below but this list is not exhaustive. We welcome other ideas too, so please feel free to ask your child for his/her own ideas and to incorporate any particular skills you both may have.

Please send your child’s completed piece into school once completed, so we can share and celebrate their work. The last date for projects to be brought in is Monday 27th November.

Please speak to any of us if you have any questions.

The Key Stage 1 team.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Write a Fairy Tale. Perhaps you could ‘borrow’ the characters from a well-known story, or invent new ones. Remember to use your best handwriting and use a dictionary to help with spellings. Or re-tell a fairy tale in your own words.
  • Visit a Museum to look at toys from long ago. Take photographs of the ones you find and write about them. You could compare a new and old toy. What is the same? What is different?
  • Design a new toy. Sketch the toy and write about it. How does it work? What does it do?
  • Make a new game. This could be a card game or a board game. Remember to include the instructions so we know how to play!
  • Make a puppet of a well-known fairy tale character or someone who lived in a castle. You could use felt, an old sock or a wooden spoon as a starting point.
  • Write a book review of a fairy tale. Perhaps you could visit the library and read one you haven’t heard before.
  • Create a piece of artwork inspired by a fairy tale. Use any art technique you like: paint, collage, pastel, model making.
  • Make a castle. How many features can you include? (Not too big please, we just don’t have the space, unfortunately)
  • Design a shield for a knight or a head-dress for a lady.
